BIOGRAPHY Andrea Vizzini is an expert in artistic techniques ranging from photography to computer art. He was one of the founders of the pre-transavanguardia movement of the 60s and 70s, which sought both a conceptual approach and a return to painting. His early works in 1966-67 were characterized by conceptualized paintings that used quotations from Greek sculptures (Pergamon Altar) and the figurative nature of the classics of 1400/1500 in heterogeneous contexts, contaminated by writings, splashes of color, cameras or cine cameras painted in a maniacal way, he paints a series of projects that reconstruct the sense of mythology and art history with a visionary eye. Later, together with the main representatives of the historical nucleus of the new figuration of the 70s, Renzo Vespignani, Giuseppe Guerreschi, Leonardo Cremonini, Karl Plattner, he can be seen actively contributing to the gradual implementation of this movement. The works of the cycles “Interni Teoretici” 1980, “Luoghi dell'Eternità” 1986 and “Iconico Anonico” 1994 are characterized by a symbolic structure and reveal a vision of the world as a dichotomy of two opposing principles. The main motifs of his works increasingly take on a combination of figurative values and informal planimetries, and immediately after the period of denial (1995-1998) he devotes himself increasingly to painting and sculpture, adopting an intimate and minimalist attitude. After using acrylic paint and collage, he experimented with different materials such as earth, iron and light and began to use almost Caravaggio-esque light effects that allow spatial depths with a very personal impact. In 1992 he exhibited the works of the cycle “Iconico Anonico” in New York at the Michael Walls gallery, and again in 1998 in New York at the Marisa del Re gallery the cycle “Negazioni”. Since 2000 he has integrated his language through the creation of sculptures and the exhibition of large-scale paintings in public spaces. Some works are in the Farnesina collection. In 2008 he exhibited at the Beijing Biennale on the occasion of the Olympic Games and his works are collected at the National Museum of Art. Fascinated by the architecture and impossible perspectives of Maurits Cornelis Escher, the artist organized a large exhibition on the theme “Places of Eternity” at the Italian Cultural Institute in London. In 2011 the exhibition Codice Perpetuo in Naples, at the “Castel Nuovo” – Maschio Angioino Museum. Here for the first time the dialogue between painting and sculpture becomes more intense and interactive. Vizzini completes the cycle “La Fine dell'Arte” which becomes the title of an exhibition he holds at the Galleria Ravagnan in Venice held in July 2017, during the 57th Venice Biennale. Concurrently with the major exhibition “Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable” by Damien Hirst at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana. He creates a series of exhibitions starting in 2019, in Paris, Galleria Bartoux. In 2023 at the ARCOS Museum in Benevento and at the Historical Archaeological Museum of Nola-Naples. Finally at the Casa del Rigoletto in Mantua (OmniaBook and Mondadori Catalogs). Important critics have written about him such as: Luca Beatrice, Achille Bonito Oliva, Luciano Caramel, Eugen Gomringer, Alberto Moravia, Pierre Restany, Klaus Honnef, Alberto Fiz, Boris Brollo, Lucio Barbera, Floriano de Santi, Enrico Crispolti, Luigi Carluccio, Leonardo Sciascia, Domenico Rea, Mario Penelope, Marco Goldin, Umberto Eco and many others. He collaborated with Al Di Meola and Pino Daniele (Jazz Guitarist and Author) on the cover of the album "The Infinite Desire" (1998). He collaborated with Karl Jenkins (Composer and Director "Adiemus"), on the covers of the albums "Adiemus Live" (2001), "Motets" (2014) and "Stravaganza" (2024)
